A native New Yorker, John Cahill grew up immersed in the creativity and excitement of one of the most inspiring cities in the world. After graduating from the College-Conservatory of Music with a BFA in Theater Design and Technology, John began his career lighting concerts, opera and dance performances.
He continued to hone his skills in entertainment lighting at Lightswitch, and in 2015, transitioned to the architectural lighting side of the business as a designer for Lightswitch Architectural. Since then, he has brought his talent for design and eye for detail to a variety of education, museum, hospitality and residential projects. These include the University of Chicago residence hall, several Boka Restaurant Group restaurants, and the Sweetbird South residences.
When he’s not creating memorable and innovative lighting design, John pursues his passion for "the other art of light"—photography.
