4 East Elm

Chicago, IL | 2017

This boutique high rise in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast is home to 35 luxury units and is was created with exclusivity and privacy in mind.

What It Was

Designed by Solomon Cordell Buenz (SCB) and interior designer Gary Lee Partners, this boutique high rise is home to 35 luxury units and is was created with exclusivity and privacy in mind. Located in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast, the building’s sleek and modern aesthetic and best-in-class amenities create the ultimate urban oasis, with gracious half and full-floor residences, high-end finishes and at least three exposures to fantastic lake and city views.

What We Did

Lightswitch provided the design strategy for all of the lighting for the entire building, including all exterior, parking garage, residential units, shared spaces, amenity deck, and pool lighting. With the highest level of finishes and amenities, we worked with the architect and interior designer to upgrade several tenant areas of 4 East Elm with advanced lighting control systems and features. We also installed recessed linear LED lights in the theater, kitchen, and workout room to prevent glare on the screens in those spaces. Throughout the interior spaces, we used downlights in ideal layouts for the open floor plans. Outside, pool deck lighting wraps around the edge of the deck and is built into the railing, giving a warm glow of ground light at night.

Why it Worked

Together, the architecture and lighting strategy create a sustainable and luxurious urban residence. Because nearly every unit in 4 East Elm has views of the lake or downtown Chicago, it was important for the lighting to enhance this exposure during day and night. The project received LEED-certification and has experienced an exceptionally high rate of sales.
