Hong Kong Jockey Club - Sha Tin Grandstand II 6/F

Hong Kong | 2013

HKJC wanted the new lighting to be both stylish and multifunctional, so Lightswitch Architectural Hong Kong designed lighting that complements the elegant interiors and serves multiple purposes.

What It Was

Sleek and streamlined, but still comfortable and inviting, the new dining venue at the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Sha Tin Racecourse Grandstand II 6/F is the perfect place for members to enjoy a bite during the race. Interior designer dwp Hong Kong renovated the existing 220-person venue, including lobby, buffet area and dining rooms, so that it better serves HKJC’s affluent clientele, many of whom are retirees.

What We Did

HKJC wanted the new lighting to be both stylish and multifunctional, so Lightswitch Architectural Hong Kong designed lighting that complements the elegant interiors and serves multiple purposes. In the grand lobby, LED tape lights highlight the striking, serpentine ceiling cove and downlights reveal the decorative glass bubbles within the cove. The cove installation leads guests into the buffet and dining spaces, where recessed LED MR16s and downlights provide soft, ambient light. Fitted with a special accessory that minimizes glare, the lights offer sufficient illumination for various tasks, including dining, reading and writing.

Why It Worked

The new lighting adds luxury and style to the space, while giving older members the functional light they need to dine and read betting forms—a winning combination. Photos by Robert Tran
