Hong Kong Jockey Club - STRC 2F Betting Hall

Since the hall functions mainly as a betting area, Lightswitch needed to provide guests ample lighting for viewing betting screens and reading forms.

What It Was

The Hong Kong Jockey Club went all in at its new Sha Tin racecourse Stand 2F betting hall. As part of club-wide improvements, HKJC tasked interior design firm Aedas with significantly upgrading its existing 4,100-square-meter public betting hall to improve its guests’ experience and attract new clients.

What We Did

Since the hall functions mainly as a betting area, Lightswitch needed to provide guests ample lighting for viewing betting screens and reading forms. We used a combination of fluorescent sources to illuminate the betting counters, booths and two wings of the betting hall with ample, even illumination, focusing on achieving the target illuminance levels for public spaces. For the restaurant and VIP room, where light levels were less of a concern, we added MR16 downlights to create a higher-contrast, moody atmosphere. The jockey and horse forms in the three-dimensional mural that lines the food court lobby are silhouetted with LED tape for additional visual interest.

Why It Worked

Through careful coordination with Aedas, we were able to clearly define the lighting objectives and requirements for the betting hall. The result is a clean, inviting space that has sweetened the pot for HKJC’s guests.
