Yeo Studio | Hong Kong | 2014

Working with Yeo Studio, Lightswitch refreshed the restaurant’s existing lighting and lighting control systems. We designed the lighting for the buffet, seating areas and restrooms to complement its new interiors.

What It Was

Kids are welcome at “The Paddock,” the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s newly renovated restaurant at the Sha Tin Racecourse Grandstand 1. To make the restaurant functional on days when races aren’t held, interior designer Yeo Studio revamped the existing 1,822-square-meter eatery with families in mind, adding a big buffet and comfortable, causal seating areas. Now children can experience the track with their parents during off days, and the club has a new audience in between races.

What We Did

Working with Yeo Studio, Lightswitch refreshed the restaurant’s existing lighting and lighting control systems. We designed the lighting for the buffet, seating areas and restrooms to complement its new interiors. Seamlessly integrated into the wood ceilings, LED downlights provide uniform illuminance levels on the buffet counters and tables. LED tape edges the base of the buffets for an extra visual punch that adds dimension and echoes the linear geometry of the ceilings and floors.

Why It Worked

As lighting designer of record for the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Lightswitch has a wealth of experience designing lighting and controls for the club’s many restaurants. Using that knowledge, we created lighting for “The Paddock” that meets HKJC’s program requirements and the eatery’s specific needs. Clean and bright with new LED lights, the restaurant is the perfect spot for families to relax at the racetrack.
