Even though last year was a huge success, we wanted to give guests an even more immersive and interactive experience this season.
Following its widely acclaimed first year, Illumination returned to The Morton Arboretum for the 2014-2015 holiday season. Lightswitch once again transformed the grounds into a magical winter wonderland using colorful, interactive, dynamic lighting. Designed to surprise and delight guests of every age, the one-of-a-kind outdoor holiday experience took guests on a journey through the arboretum, during which they were encouraged to interact with the trees through unique installations that included the new “Symphony Woods” sound-and-light show with music from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Even though last year was a huge success, we wanted to give guests an even more immersive and interactive experience this season. Working with the Arboretum and equipment provider Intelligent Lighting Creations, we re-imagined the entire show, improving old favorites and creating new ways to engage guests. The redesigned Illumination includes a new child-friendly route that begins with a variety of dynamic, interactive installations and ends with a series of rich, immersive vignettes. Guest favorites, like “Hug A Tree,” “Tree Harmony” and “Artistrees,” returned with new streamlined interfaces designed to enhance the guest’s connection to the arbor, while new additions, such as “Meadow Lake Magic” and “Symphony Woods,” stimulate sight and sound, respectively, to create an even more layered, sensory experience.
Last year, Illumination wowed guests with its truly unique take on holiday lighting. This year, we worked hard to ensure that the show was just as unique. By honing in on what worked, eliminating what didn’t and envisioning new ways to make it even more magical, we created an entirely new experience that enchanted guests all over again.
