Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab

Joe's Seafood | Las Vegas | 2008

What It Was

Joe's Restaurant opened in the early 1900’s as a simple restaurant in Miami Beach where they served stone crab, hash browns and coleslaw. In 2000, Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab, an Icon LLC and Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises restaurant, opened its doors in Chicago. In 2004, it opened its doors again in the new addition of The Forum Shops at Caesars Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The Architect was Aria Group Architects of Oak Park, Illinois.

What We Did

Lightswitch was retained to consult on lighting in both locations, addressing the owner's very specific concerns. We were instrumental in removing almost all of the usual track lighting in the spaces and replacing it with small aperture MR16 adjustable down lights. This reduced the clutter on the ceiling and created a very clean look. We also specified a new linear LED product to provide the ‘glow’ in the coves the owner desired.

Why It Worked

We used our knowledge of color media and color temperatures to shift the different light sources specified to the correct color temperature. Lightswitch was also able to reduce the architect’s workload onsite by attending to all lighting issues. The design not only achieved the aesthetic goals, but also reduced heat loads and power use.
