Nightfire!

Celebration City | Branson, MO | 1999

We provided both lighting and projection design services for the show.

What It Was

NightFire! was a night-time spectacular at the Celebration City theme park in Branson, Mo. The show was comprised of projection on a 50 by 200 foot rock wall and 100' water-screen, complemented by lighting, laser effects, pyrotechnics and fireworks. It performed to audiences of up to 4000 nightly throughout the summer season.

What We Did

We provided both lighting and projection design services for the show. The projection system consisted of PiGi projectors covering the entire 200' span, augmenting 100' of video projection also on the rock wall, as well as rear projection on the water screen. The entire narrative burden fell on the projected imagery since the show contained no live performers and only a top of show narration. Producer WOW! Works teamed Lightswitch with director Jay Smith to developed a visual journey through iconic images of American life and history. In addition, we expanded on the existing lighting system and integrated the lighting design into the projected imagery to create a seamless visual experience.

Why It Worked

By collecting the majority of the visual disciples under the Lightswitch umbrella, we were able to make the various projection and lighting systems work together to create a dynamic experience. The design often blurred the boundary between projection and lighting, leveraging the strengths of each discipline to create effects that often defied the audience's ability to understand how they were made, making a truly magical experience.
