Powerpuff Girls SXSW

Those beloved female crime fighters The Powerpuff Girls were ready for reintroduction to fans old and new.

What It Was

Those beloved female crime fighters The Powerpuff Girls were ready for reintroduction to fans old and new. Cartoon Network selected the legendary South by Southwest festival in Austin TX as the venue to reboot the series, and wanted to create a buzz. Event producer GO! Experience Design conceived an exciting, distinctive and ‘on brand’ parade featuring giant balloons of Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup. Fans were lead by the super heroes to an exclusive outdoor event and party featuring fun family activities, give aways and prizes, with the evening capped by an exclusive screening of the series premiere on a giant screen under the stars.

What We Did

The event was staged on the lawn of the Long Center, with beautiful views across the river to downtown Austin. The parade route was lined with groups of 3K Strong ‘Gladiator’ spotlights, while the movie screening area and stage was activated with Syncrolite automated searchlights and vertical towers with Clay Paky Sharpy and B-Eye fixtures. The inflatable ‘pods’ on the Long Center plaza were lit with vivid, vibrant Chauvet LED Quad Pars.

Why It Worked

With a very challenging install and rehearsal schedule, this undertaking required exactly the kind of detailed and thorough planning that is the hallmark of every Lightswitch endeavor. The show was part rock concert, part TV special, and part environmental special event – just the kind of multi disciplinary project that is the ‘sweet spot’ for Lightswitch. By balancing the needs of event photographers and videographers with the clients desire for an exciting and memorable live event, we made sure everyone had a great evening that was captured for press and social media, and to quote the Powerpuff Girls ‘Once Again The Day Was Saved...’
