The Goodman Theatre Center

Chicago, IL | 2000

LED technology was used to strategically light the south façade of the building. Nearly 200 Color Kinetics ‘Colorblast’ fixtures were installed on a custom window wall system.

What It Was

Friedman Properties planned to create a high-end retail and entertainment facility to front the new Goodman Theater in Chicago. Developer Albert Friedman was determined to take the south façade of the building and turn it into a landmark anchor for the new downtown theater district.

What We Did

LED technology was used to strategically light the south façade of the building. Nearly 200 Color Kinetics ‘Colorblast’ fixtures were installed on a custom window wall system. A WholeHog control system was programmed in order meet the diverse needs of the project, and also had the ability to integrate audio with the color-changing lighting.

Why It Worked

Lightswitch worked directly with the developer in order to produce a comprehensive design plan that best met his needs and budget. Seasonal and abstract programs were conceived in order to optimize adaptability and enhance the distinction of the prominent theater. This powerful lighting design was achieved while maintaining low power consumption and achieving long-term cost savings.
