Von Bar

New York | 2009

BUDGET was the name of the game for this project. We worked quite intimately with the owner to provide a simply crafted space that allowed for excellent quality of light.

What It Was

Von Bar is located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan and is a subterranean addition to an existing hot spot serving fine wine and cocktails. It is a newly created 1,100 square foot basement space, which the owner carved a dropped lounge area and bar seating, holding about 120 people.

What We Did

BUDGET was the name of the game for this project. We worked quite intimately with the owner to provide a simply crafted space that allowed for excellent quality of light. Ribbons of linear halogen source contrast nicely with art specific LED & halogen accent lights to create an excellent feel for mood and warmth.

Why It Worked

Although the equipment and sources are quite simple, we were able to create an excellent overall lighting design that served dual purpose within a single system. The lighting needs to be low-level and dramatic during working hours and also significantly bright for maintenance.
