What It Was

Iconic rock band Journey paid tribute to its roots in the “city by the Bay” during its 2014 and 2015 tour.

What We Did

We worked with production manager Rob Kern and lighting and production designer Kevin “Deuce” Christopher to ensure that our content integrated seamlessly with his design and didn’t overwhelm the production or the band. Using a combination of content and video, Lightswitch designed media for the tour that reflected Journey’s rich history and created a visual homage to the band and its music. Media included iconic images from the band's album covers, a montage of fan social media images curated by Planet Ten, and artist Simon Christen’s time-lapse photography of the San Francisco Bay which played during fan-favorite “Lights.”

Why It Worked

Our goal was to create an aesthetically appropriate and financially responsible package that was tailored to our client’s needs and fit with the creative direction of the production. For Journey, this meant collaborating with the production and lighting teams to streamline the design process and create a cohesive, on-budget content package that supported the band without attempting to steal the show.
