What We Did

The waterways play a large role in Tampa’s personality, and our first impression noted how beautiful the City looked from the water. In order to highlight this characteristic, Lightswitch used color as a transformative and emotive element to bring new life and attention to the bridges. Much like the ever-changing currents below, the bridges constantly change color and appearance, reflecting their magic in the Hillsborough River. In addition, we added image projections into the scheme, including encapsulations of both the local wildlife and nature as well as glimpses of recognizable sights of Tampa.

Why It Worked

Combining our nearly three decades of experience designing for both entertainment and architecture, we were able to craft distinctive and tailored responses for each bridge. The project united the city of Tampa, and the results have been community-wide appreciation and ownership, and requests to extend this lighting program to other areas of the city. Our hope is the bridge lighting will bring joy to people who walk, gaze, and dream along Tampa’s riverwalk for many an evening to come.
