Working with Lucid, we helped create a massive arena experience with an innovative design that featured both lighting and kinetic scenery.

What It Was

Arbonne is a direct-to-consumer cosmetics and skin care leader who empowers a massive network of private consultants worldwide with safe, natural, and distinctive products. Every year, more than 25,000 Arbonne consultants and management gather in Las Vegas for their four-day Global Training Conference (GTC), featuring education, inspiration, and entertainment.

What We Did

Collaborating with Rick Husong of Lucid, we helped create a compelling and flexible environment to stage everything from ‘blow the doors off’ entertainment to product presentations, along with heartfelt testimonials and life stories. The show was presented in the round, so special care and attention was required to support not only the guests in the room but also the extensive video system. We supplemented a complex lighting design with an array of Glow Motion kinetic winches with LED ‘rods’. This ever-changing kinetic sculpture kept the space above the stage alive, dynamic, and exciting.

Why It Worked

Large arena shows like GTC have a complex array of ever-changing and frequently contradictory needs. Lighting in the round is a careful balance of level, position, and color to ensure the lighting is even, but doesn’t overwhelm the presenters. The audience is the background but they cannot be lit too brightly or it becomes distracting. The GTC entertainment pieces deserved an arena scale rock show gravitas, while the ever-present challenge of ‘lighting for the lens’ for video archive and web cast brought further complexity. Our decades of experience designing for corporate theatre, entertainment and television made Lightswitch uniquely qualified to find the balance between all of these and resulted in a conference that looked great in the room, on video, or viewing remotely on webcast. We believe there is always an opportunity to balance live and lens. Our clients are never forced to compromise the experience for part of their audience – everyone can win!
