In 2017, the City of Beverly Hills wanted to enhance its holiday decorations with something more high-tech and contemporary, as part of an initiative to attract more visitors to the city’s “Golden Triangle” after dark. Lightswitch curated and crafted installations to fit the client’s vision. Since its inception, the design has grown, and now features festive lighting on North Canon Drive and Rodeo Drive, as well as a striking display of light and sound elements in the Beverly Gardens Park lily pond.

Lightswitch initially worked with the Beverly Hills Conference and Visitors Bureau to develop new displays that utilized theatrical, sculptural, and artistic elements to add a new dimension to the city’s traditional decorations. As part of the original design, we brought in sculptural artists HYBYCOZO to install six of their signature pieces in a city park. We also collaborated with experience marketing group Agen-C to bring excitement and innovation to the famous Rodeo Drive.

Since 2021, Lightswitch has worked with event & experience production and design firm Utopia Worldwide to design and implement new light+art experiences. Our first addition to the BOLDHolidays spectacle was an array of color-changing light installations suspended over North Canon Drive. These swaths of holiday lights were programmed in a 30-minute cycle of eye-catching patterns and pleasing palettes, appealing simultaneously to pedestrians, vehicular traffic, and the surrounding alfresco dining establishments. In 2023, our team also designed an updated display to replace the original installation over North Beverly Drive.

Additionally, Lightswitch conceived, designed, and programmed bespoke light+art installations for Beverly Canon Gardens in 2022, as well as a recurring display of custom-designed “electric lilies” that fill the pond in the iconic Beverly Gardens Park, where decades’ worth of tourists have snapped photos in front of the famous Beverly Hills sign. The 600 color-changing fixtures illuminate nightly, accompanied by holiday-themed light and music shows that play frequently throughout the holiday season.

These installations add a layer of modernity and sophistication to the festive but traditional holiday decorations that return year after year to the city’s streets and public spaces. Adding these new experiences helps make Beverly Hills a destination, and drives consumers to the city after dark as part of their “BOLD” initiative. Our light installations bring an exciting visual element to the already bustling North Canon Drive. Additionally, the artistic lily pond show draws the public into Beverly Gardens Park, delivering beautiful views – not to mention the chance to snap a social media-worthy shot. All these installations bring upbeat cheer and entertainment to locals and tourists alike, elevating the holiday experience to a level of sophistication appropriate for the City of Beverly Hills.
