Coca-Cola - Beijing Olympic Pavilion

Beijing Olympic Green | 2008

Lightswitch designed architectural and theatrical lighting systems that were coordinated with the architects (CABR), the Building General Contractor and the rental lighting company (Showtec).

What It Was

The Shuang Experience Center was a 40,000 square foot building dedicated to celebrating Coke's sponsorship of the 29th Olympic Games and its long history of supporting the Olympics. The 3 story Pavilion also helped convey such diverse stories as Coke's sponsorship of the Olympic Torch Run, the Coke Art Bottle Project (artists from 34 areas of China completed replicas of the Coke Bottle with artwork signifying their homeland) and Coke's environmental initiatives.

What We Did

Lightswitch designed architectural and theatrical lighting systems that were coordinated with the architects (CABR), the Building General Contractor and the rental lighting company (Showtec). A sophisticated control system was designed with Video Tube to control the lighting by MIDI, SMPTE and time of day cues.

Why It Worked

The building was completed in an unprecedented 3 months from ground breaking to opening. This required incredible skill and coordination by the Design, Planning and Installation teams. Using our diverse backgrounds and experience we were able to create what amounted to an amazing experience for thousands of guests and athletes worldwide. The lighting system accentuated the media and musical elements turning the Pavilion into a dynamic Branding Experience Center that will forever be remembered for Coke and the Chinese people.
