Warner Brothers and Hans Zimmer Dune Media Event

Warner Brothers | Hollywood, CA | 2022

Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer wanted something more distinctive and bespoke than a simple press conference when speaking to the media about his acclaimed score for Dune.

What it Was

Lightswitch created this event showcasing Hans Zimmer’s score for Dune at the striking Laurel Canyon Live. This experience was both a bespoke concert and a press conference, putting a unique twist on the typical interview format of these events. We collaborated with Zimmer, his longtime business partner Steve Kofsky, and acclaimed Dune editor Joe Walker to execute an experience unlike any other.

What we Did

Working with Executive Visions founder and CEO Michael Marto, our team sprang into action with a very short timeline. This project, which was coordinated over New Year 2022 in record time, was hampered by the rise in Omicron cases around the globe. Despite these challenges, Lightswitch dug deep to find the resources and personnel to move forward and exceed our client’s needs. The project required an interesting blend of lighting and visual design: Zimmer had a vision of projecting scenes from the film over the band. Our team worked with the film’s editor Joe Walker, who created custom clips from the movie footage to use as both projected visual support and additional lighting. Finally, we consulted with the performers on costume design to ensure no detail was left to chance.

Why it Worked

Hans Zimmer is considered one of today’s most innovative composers, and this project hammered home his unique artistic vision. By rapidly sourcing significant resources and drawing on our broad visual design experience, Lightswitch was able to help produce a truly distinctive event that rightfully put the musicians in the heart of the movie, resulting in an unforgettable press conference experience.
