When the Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant Fook Lam Moon was slated to open in Galaxy Macau shopping mall, they were in need of lighting design. Lightswitch tackled the design for the space’s waiting area, main dining room, semi-private dining space, and a variety of VIP dining rooms.
In our design for Fook Lam Moon, our team achieved a high level of customizability for the dining experience. Each private room was given its own mood-change control, utilizing high CRI LEDs to render the true color of the food in any lighting. In the main dining room, a large crystal ring chandelier and light-washed walls achieved an open and classic look.
A cultural consideration that we took into account was the standard appearance of Chinese restaurants. Many establishments prefer a bright, open atmosphere to a dim and cozy one. This led us to feature general lighting and washes in the main dining room, while allowing customization in the private rooms according to diners’ preferences.
Keeping customizability in mind, we were able to deliver a result that satisfied our team, the client, and patrons of the restaurant and the Galaxy Macau mall as a whole. With consideration for the average dining customer, as well as for the more upscale potential of the VIP rooms, the Lightswitch team created a truly adaptable dining space for Fook Lam Moon.
