What It Was

Following the record-breaking success of the Tony Award-winning musical, this immersive installation invites fans to enter the life and times of Alexander Hamilton. The exhibition, housed in a 35,000 square foot structure on Chicago’s Northerly Island, features voiceover narration by Lin Manuel Miranda and bespoke scenery designed by David Korins.

What We Did

Designers at Lightswitch were able to pull from our collective wealth of experience in designing for live theatre, museums, and installations to create an immersive design that shattered the boundaries of place and time that stood between the “Hamilfans” and the historical world they’ve come to love. Behind the scenes, Lightswitch worked with the design team to integrate lighting into the scenery on an aggressive and challenging schedule.

Why It Worked

The cultural phenomenon of the musical left many people wanting a more in-depth look into the life of Alexander Hamilton and the revolutionary events that created this country. This experience seeks to fulfill that desire, building an environment where people of all ages can dive deep into the rich history together.
