ICE! Shrek the Halls

Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center | Kissimmee, FL | 2012

Since the sculptures are carved on site, Lightswitch partnered with the artisans to design the lighting placement in advance.

What It Was

Each year the Gaylord Palms offers guests the chance to walk through a winter wonderland right in the heart of sunny Florida at its annual ICE! experience. In 2011 the resort partnered with DreamWorks to turn its parking lot into a tent-covered walking attraction filled with ice sculptures based on its Shrek the Halls film.

What We Did

Since the sculptures are carved on site, Lightswitch partnered with the artisans to design the lighting placement in advance. Using theatrical lighting, including moving-heard fixtures, we created a colorful, dynamic design that interacts with the storyline and brings the sculptures to life. The lighting transformed the tent into a theme park-style attraction, while maintaining the integrity of the temperature-sensitive ice sculptures.

Why It Worked

Over the years, Lightswitch has helped to turn this ice sculpture exhibit into a world-class attraction with increased ticket and merchandise sales. Lightswitch will design the lighting for ICE! 2012, which will be based on DreamWorks’ Madagascar movies, as well as the resort’s holiday retail center and exhibit hall.
