Lightswitch originally worked with Il Divo on a tour meant to celebrate the launch of their new album. But this tour was canceled as well when revered Il Divo member Carlos passed away from COVID-19 complications. The tour was then transformed a third and final time – becoming an in-memoriam program for Carlos featuring the group’s greatest hits.
Lightswitch originally worked with Il Divo on a tour meant to celebrate the launch of their new album. However, this was delayed due to the pandemic. When in-person events began to move forward again, the tour was rebranded as a Christmas show. But this tour was canceled as well when revered Il Divo member Carlos passed away from COVID-19 complications. The tour was then transformed a third and final time – becoming an in-memoriam program for Carlos featuring the group’s greatest hits.
With respect for the client’s budget constraints, Lightswitch designed this show as a one-truck tour. Our scenic and lighting design was flexible, with a rig that allowed the show to adjust to fit the many venues in which the group would perform. Through careful planning and attention to logistics, we ended up running out of truck space before we exhausted the budget – a sign of a successful one-truck tour!
Our team originally designed this tour in July 2021, before it was delayed due to the pandemic. The flexibility of our design was put to the test, as we ended up adjusting the scenic and lighting design twice as the show evolved – first following the pandemic shutdowns, and then again in light of Carlos’ passing. In the end, by working with the Il Divo team, we were able to remake the show in honor of Carlos.
Because we understood the constraints under which the client was working, we were able to successfully stay under budget throughout the tour. Our flexible design proved to be very beneficial in light of the many changes the tour underwent before it came to fruition. Ultimately, this flexibility allowed us to essentially create three unique shows.
We are glad that Il Divo was able to honor Carlos’ tragic passing with a compilation of their greatest hits. The Lightswitch team is proud to have been a part of showcasing the group’s music, which has brought joy to so many for so long.
