Jeld-Wen Flagship Showroom

Skolnick Architecture and Design | Charlotte, North Carolina | 2019

Lightswitch created a retail experience for Jeld-Wen’s new flagship showroom that recreates the feeling of natural sunlight.

What It Was

Lightswitch designed the lighting for Jeld-Wen’s new flagship showroom in Charlotte, North Carolina. We worked with Skolnick Architecture and Design Partnership to recreate natural daylight inside their 10,000 square foot space.

What We Did

The showroom has three components: an immersive orientation space, the product showcase village, and a design studio to finish the experience. As guests enter the space to explore Jeld-Wen’s products in person, they are welcomed into a sunny, bright, and natural environment. As the guests move beyond the orientation space, they become immersed in various models of interior and exterior vignettes showcasing ideal uses of their products. These vignettes consist of familiar domestic spaces that guests can explore throughout the showcase. Each vignette was thematically lit to match the natural lighting guests may see in their own living rooms, kitchen, or front porches. With dynamic architectural styles displaying all of Jeld-Wen’s unique products, our lighting created a clean and seamless retail experience, showcasing how Jeld-Wen’s products would look in any home.

Why It Worked

It is Jeld-Wen’s technical innovations that set their products apart. Their flagship showroom elevates the guest experience by immersing them in realistic home models. Within such a large studio, a significant challenge was the refraction of light from window glass. We crafted a solution that balanced the lighting equally to create an authentic architectural experience, both for the interior and exterior components of a home. In addition to the vignette village, we wanted to support the rest of the space with an inviting retail experience through a domestic lens. Using the symmetry of the door and window and window frames, we creatively featured Jeld-Wen’s products with unexpected ceiling-based lighting to tie together the guest experience.
