Lucky Dragon brings China to Las Vegas. Located on the north end of the strip, the new hotel and casino was built by Chinese investors to offer guests an authentically Asian cultural and gaming experience. With architecture by EV&A Architects, interior design by Lee Cagley Design and landscape architecture from Valley Crest, with more than 131,000-sf designed space, the property features 203 Asian-styled rooms a 27,500-sf casino, spa, five restaurants and an indoor-outdoor tea garden with selections curated by Vegas’ only tea sommelier.
Lightswitch designed lighting for the exterior and interiors of the hotel, casino and restaurants—all within the finite budget requirements set by the U.S.-China investment visa program. A traditional red-and-gold palette was selected for the exterior and main interior areas. Outside, eight of the hotel tower’s ten stories are flooded with red light, while the top story is ringed in crisp white. The palette is echoed on the adjoining two-story casino complex, where bold striations of white light bring dynamic drama to the façade. At the entrance, on the ground level andorganic pattern of varying size white round lights makes the porte-cochere stand out against the surrounding stone-clad exterior walls, which are grazed with soft illumination. The red-and-gold scheme continues inside the hotel and casino, which are illuminated with warm-white, high-CRI luminaires that emphasize the colors’ richness and highlight detailed ornamentation on the interior finishes. To keep casino gaming areas intimate, we lit the canopies over the gaming tables and added ambient illumination to light the volume of the double-height space. We coordinated the casino’s focal point above the Pagoda Bar—a 1.25-ton glass dragon chandelier—with the interior design team. The lighting for each of the restaurants reveals their unique character. Over 400 colorful paper lanterns dot the ceiling of Dragon’s Alley, a cafeteria-style emporium inspired by Asia’s vibrant night markets, while precise pinspotting accentuates the high-end finishes of the Pearl Ocean, an elegant fine dining experience.
