Through coordinated teamwork and creative ingenuity, Lightswitch helped build an unforgettable show for Marc Anthony’s first Las Vegas residency, “Vegas My Way.”
Grammy-winning performer Marc Anthony decided to name his first Las Vegas residency “Vegas My Way,” both as a testament to the progression of his career, and also because the show contained a multitude of songs he had never performed live before. This show was different, and he wanted the lighting design to reflect that.
Lightswitch Senior Director Ignacio Rosenberg led a team in designing lighting, automation, and lasers for the residency, in collaboration with the show’s Creative Director Carlos Perez of Elastic People. Lightswitch’s design was revealed slowly over the course of the performance, culminating in a visual feast of previously established lighting elements and resulting in a truly delightful audience experience. Additionally, Lightswitch worked with the video content team to ensure the show’s moving trusses did not obstruct any sightlines. Musical guests graced the large screens to sing duets with Marc Anthony, while other songs featured abstract visuals, which we coordinated with our lighting. The main goal of the design was to keep Marc Anthony front and center, both on stage and on camera. As a seasoned performer, he knew how to hold his own in front of a crowd – but it was Lightswitch’s job to design a show around the followspot locations in the venue, allowing for a healthy dose of Vegas elegance and the panache the award-winning artist deserves. Because the venue was booked until the day of the first performance, our previz and rehearsal process was particularly complex. An adaptive rig was created to emulate the venue during rehearsals, preparing the team for opening night before they ever entered the space. When it was time for load-in, our team ran both the rehearsal rig and the in-house system concurrently, to experience a “real life” run and ensure the fixtures in the theatre behaved the same as those used during rehearsals.
Through coordinated teamwork and creative ingenuity, Lightswitch helped build an unforgettable show for Marc Anthony’s first Las Vegas residency. Our design immersed audiences in the vibrant hits and personal history that make this Grammy-winning artist a salsa legend. Without letting venue scheduling or rehearsal complexities faze us, we did “My Way” our way to deliver an incredible show to a modern music icon.
