Following a successful opening slot on the multi-act “Total Package” tour the previous year, legendary pop artist and choreographer Paula Abdul headlined her own tours to theaters throughout the United States and Canada. With an abstract autobiographical narrative and the resurrection of some of her classic hits, the show was built to be a treat for her fans.
Lightswitch designed lighting for the 90-minute show working closely with the show’s director and choreographer, as well as integrating with the media design on the large upstage video wall. As the show was visiting theatrical venues of various sizes, we designed a compact and efficient touring lighting system that was able to be set up quickly and allowed the full show to be deployed in all venue sizes. Lighting was extensively programmed and sequenced with audio and video to both pack an impressive punch in intimate venues while also filling the space in larger theaters.
The energetic and tightly produced music, choreography, and visual design of the show were matched in intensity and enhanced by the lighting design. The compact and tour-friendly lighting system delivered impressive effects and impact to audiences, giving the production a powerful bang for their buck.
