Solutions Grassroots Tour

Part theater production, part environmental campaign, the Solutions Grassroots Tour is a unique hybrid event that encourages the audience to become active participants in the fight against climate change. The brainchild of Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning film and theater director and environmental activist Josh Fox, the event combines live theater, film and musical acts into a two-hour show that ran for six nights at the Irondale Center in Brooklyn and will continue to tour the U.S. After the show, attendees have the opportunity to affect change in their communities by signing up with renewable energy providers in their region.

Lightswitch worked with longtime friend and collaborator Fox and New York City-based equipment rental company Video Equipment Rentals to provide energy-efficient LED lighting for the show. We designed the lighting to complement the style of the show, drawing the audience into the vignettes that illustrate the story of climate change. What’s more, our LED lighting solution uses one-tenth of the power consumed by traditional fixtures and will enable the show to travel to small venues across the country that couldn’t support large, energy-consuming productions.

As a longstanding advocate of sustainable design, Lightswitch has become a leader in creative, energy-efficient lighting design. We were honored to work with Fox and celebrity co-hosts, including Mark Ruffalo, Phylicia Rashad, and Zephyr Teachout among others, to spread the word about renewable energy and to demonstrate how energy-efficient lighting can play a vital role in reducing our collective footprint.
