Sensorio, a privately-owned art park open to the public of Central California, commissioned longtime Lightswitch collaborator HYBYCOZO to create a new installation. Lightswitch was uniquely prepared to assist in this creative process, which resulted in the artists' largest project to date.
Sensorio, a privately owned outdoor art space open to the public of Central California, is currently home to four existing installations by light artist Bruce Munro. Longtime Lightswitch collaborator HYBYCOZO was selected to create “Dimensions,” a new permanent installation at the site, which offers visitors a magically immersive experience that explores the relationship between form, color, and sound. According to the artists behind the piece, “‘Dimensions’ was created to transport visitors to another world…A place that transcends time and space by connecting the universal languages of geometry, light, and music together.”
After originally introducing HYBYCOZO to Sensorio, Lightswitch collaborated on concept development with the artists, serving as lighting designers and consultants throughout the construction process. We were responsible for completing all the controls and permanent construction specifications, as well as overseeing engineering and installation of the architectural-grade lighting system. Finally, our team worked with the artists to create an immersive sequence of sound and light programming on the installation itself, featuring music by world-renowned musician Alen Hulsey.
The result is a highly immersive and transportive experience, which encourages visitors to engage and play with the interactive elements, taking note of how their own shadows become part of the art as they move through the installation.
Because of our frequent past collaborations with the client, Lightswitch was uniquely prepared to assist in this creative process. Our rapport with the artists behind “Dimensions” made for a successful and fulfilling design process, which has yielded a truly special interactive installation – HYBYCOZO’s largest to date. Sensorio’s visually-isolated, remote location – halfway between the metropolises of Northern and Southern California – make “Dimensions” a truly one-of-a-kind immersive light+art destination for visitors.
