Lionel Richie "All The Hits" Tour

North American tour | 2017

Building on the success of his Las Vegas residency, Lionel Richie wanted to take his show on the road. We adapted the design to play 270 degrees for arena audiences and enabled the artist and his band to get closer to the audience.

WHAT IT WAS

Building on the success of his Las Vegas residency, Lionel Richie wanted to take the show on the road. In order to adapt the theatrical show created for a theater to an arena tour, the artist once again turned to Lightswitch.

WHAT WE DID

Utilizing the same design language created for the Las Vegas residency, we adapted the design to play 270 degrees for arena audiences. The diamond-shaped thrust was turned into a complete diamond-shaped stage which put Lionel more in touch with his fans in the front rows. The series of video screens were flattened out to create a stunning monolithic back wall of lighting and media. We also designed several new pieces for the tour, including a piano elevator that allowed the artist’s instrument to be retracted below the stage when not in use, making the relationship with his band more intimate on the giant stage.

WHY IT WORKED

The unorthodox stage shape actually allowed for more front-row seats, while also enabling the artist and his band to get closer to the audience on the extreme sides of the arenas. The elaborate lighting and media design originated in Las Vegas adapted beautifully to larger venues and the energy and excitement of the legendary recording and performing artist was a hit with audiences.
