Lionel Richie built a completely new show for his new residency at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. We designed the set, lighting, and media for the production devoid of elaborate theatrical staging and gimmicks to keep the attention focused on the legendary performer.
Lionel Richie took up residency at the Planet Hollywood Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Building a completely new show, Lionel delivered all the hits all night long in a 110-minute show with just Lionel and his five-piece band on stage.
Working with the artist and his creative director, Lightswitch designed the set, lighting, and media for the production. Designed to be cost & time efficient, the production rotated in repertory with other A-level music artists throughout its two-year run. We reconfigured in-house lighting and video systems, expanding the design with additional elements while still keeping the attention on Lionel and the band. A diamond-shaped stage created a thrust into the audience and allowed Lionel to stay facing the audience. Flanked by a series of video screens, the forced perspective of the stage design kept the audience focused on the live performance and created an intimate experience in the enormous stage space.
