What It Was

Lightswitch was honored to have been involved with the 2002 Ronald McDonald House Charities' annual 'Awards of Excellence' gala at the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago. The gala, which Lightswitch has lit every year since 1995, honors individuals who have made a difference in children's issues globally. The event also featured the 'Concert for World Children's Day,’ a one-hour primetime telecast produced by Executive Visions Inc, which aired in conjunction with the worldwide fundraising event. The production subsequently aired on PBS, and was released on DVD.

What We Did

The entire production design relied on beams and shapes of light created by more than 300 lighting fixtures incorporated into Lightswitch’s extensive design.

Why It Worked

The lighting system for this event was designed to be versatile enough to light each artist uniquely and differentiate between the many acts ranging from Celine Dion to Enrique Iglesias, and took full advantage of the capabilities of the 24p high definition video techniques utilized to capture the event.
