Hong Kong Jockey Club - 2F Members Club Betting Hall

Aedas + DWP Hong Kong | Hong Kong | 2014

Lightswitch Architectural Hong Kong designed the lighting for the betting spaces, VIP area and restaurant. We partnered with architect Aedas and interior designer DWP Hong Kong to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere worthy of its members-only distinction.

What It Was

Membership at The Hong Kong Jockey Club just got a little sweeter. As part of its club-wide improvement program, HKJC introduced a new members-only betting club at the Sha Tin racecourse’s 2/F grandstand. Outfitted with comfortable seating areas, a private restaurant, and the latest digital gadgets, the 27,534-square foot hall offers members much more than “just another day at the races.”

What We Did

Lightswitch Architectural Hong Kong designed the lighting for the betting spaces, VIP area and restaurant. We partnered with architect Aedas and interior designer dwp Hong Kong to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere worthy of its members-only distinction. In the general betting area, downlights, recessed linear fluorescents and LED cove are layered to provide sufficient light levels for betting and viewing TV screens. The lighting also reveals unique architectural elements, such as the slatted wood ceiling pockets and betting station build-outs. Warmer illumination was used in VIP areas, where finishes are darker and the ambiance is more moody.

Why It Worked

Our close coordination with the design team and vendors enabled us to create the little details that make this space shine. We collaborated with dwp to gather ideas and inspiration before designing custom luminaires to complement the interiors. Then we carefully monitored the fabrication process to ensure that the fixtures met our collective vision. Completed on time, in budget and with thoughtful attention to detail, the luxe lighting is another great reason to join the club. Photos: Robert Tran Photography
