Hong Kong Jockey Club - HVRC Young Members Restaurant

DWP Hong Kong | Hong Kong | 2012

Lightswitch designed the lighting for the corridor, elevator bank, and open dining and kitchen areas to reveal the bright interiors.

What It Was

The newly renovated Young Members restaurant brings a little bit of heaven to Hong Kong. The 500-square-meter eatery at the Hong Kong Jockey Club's Happy Valley Racecourse features light and airy interiors, designed by DWP Hong Kong, that are illuminated with divine-inspired lighting elements.

What We Did

Lightswitch designed the lighting for the corridor, elevator bank, and open dining and kitchen areas to reveal the bright interiors. In the corridor and elevator bank, downlights were embedded in the ceiling in constellation-like patterns for decorative effect. Wall-washers graze the glass-tiled walls, while circular skylights add natural illumination overhead. To the right of the corridor, the dining and seating areas are marked by warm-white ceiling coves that reveal the unique sculptural ceiling. Orb-shaped, ceiling-mounted, chrome pendants ringed with halos are set in clusters to carry the celestial theme from the corridor into the restaurant.

Why It Worked

HKJC was looking to appeal to a younger generation of racegoers, so we designed restaurant lighting that is sophisticated, yet playful to attract its target demographic.
