What It Was

Nintendo’s 2014 and 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo exhibits featured a variety of gaming and branding experiences in an open, accessible layout that invited attendees to join in the fun.

What We Did

To create points of interest within the 20,000 square foot space, a variety of lighting solutions were employed that highlighted various individual areas of the exhibit, each featuring different new products and experiences. Featured new titles, Super Mario Maker, StarFox, Super Smash Bros. and Splatoon, each had interactive gaming areas where guests could compete with one another. The Super Smash Bros. zone, featured a competition-style experience, with energetic and kinetic lighting, while Splatoon, a game that challenges players to paint their environment with color, was presented in a more graphic environment, animated with saturated color and patterns. Nintendo also broadcasted live updates on the web directly from “Treehouse Live,” a broadcast studio complete with TV-appropriate lighting in the center of the exhibit.

Why It Worked

For almost 20 years, Lightswitch has helped bring Nintendo’s dynamic, energetic brand to life at E3 with bright, kinetic lighting. This year was no exception. The 2014 exhibit lighting design was even more streamlined and efficient than years past without losing any of its signature Nintendo punch. Photos by Jeff Granbery
