Virgin Galactic Launch

Museum of Natural History, New York | 2008

The press event was designed to ensure the needs of both still and video photographers were met, maximizing media coverage.

What It Was

When Virgin Galactic wanted to unveil the design for their groundbreaking commercial spacecraft, The Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History in New York was the perfect location. An evening gala party to celebrate this milestone in space tourism followed a ‘standing room only’ press conference.

What We Did

The press event was designed to ensure the needs of both still and video photographers were met, maximizing media coverage. The party design used projected images, gobos and LED technology to immerse the guests in an environment that was exciting, dynamic and truly ‘Virgin Galactic’.

Why It Worked

Lightswitch’s experience working in both events and the museum world allowed us to design an event that was exciting and dynamic for the press and for guests, but also mindful of the particular requirements for working in a museum. In addition, a very tight timeline for both design and execution was easily accomplished by teaming resources from the New York and Chicago Lightswitch offices. By designing both the press conference and the gala party, Lightswitch was able to achieve efficiencies using staff and equipment on both events.
